Frequently Asked Questions

What is Eden Telemed?

With Eden Telemed, you can start talking to a family doctor or specialist to get a prescription online in minutes. All Eden Telehealth doctors are Canadian licensed physicians and members of the College of Physicians of Quebec. Our goal is to provide unlimited access to fast and convenient virtual care from the comfort of your home or office.

Why is it important to book a travel health consultation?

It is essential to be well informed and prepared regarding the health risks in the country that you will be traveling to. If you have an upcoming personal, family or business trip, book an appointment with one of our nurses specialized in Travel Health who will provide you with valuable information to ensure a safe and healthy trip and can recommend and administer the necessary medication, vaccines and covid tests.

What vaccines do I need to travel abroad?

Depending on the country you are traveling to, and the duration of your trip, the vaccine needs for each person can vary. We recommend you to schedule an appointment for a travel consultation with one of our registered nurses. Our specialized travel health nurses at Eden Telemed can guide you, recommend and administer vaccines tailored to your specific needs.

Is it safe to receive many vaccines on the same day?

Most vaccines are generally well tolerated. If you usually do not experience side effects when receiving vaccines, receiving many vaccines will not increase your risk of side effects.

What are the most common side effects of vaccines?

Each person has their own response to each vaccine. Generally, the most common side effects of vaccines include: pain at the injection site, redness, or mild swelling in the 24-48 hours following vaccination. Our nurse team will inform you of the risks and benefits associated with the vaccines you need for your travel.

For how long will my vaccines protect me from getting sick?

The duration of protection can vary depending on the type of vaccine. For example, the combined hepatitis A and B vaccine can offer you protection for 20 years whereby one dose of the typhoid fever vaccine will protect you for 3 years.

Once I receive a vaccine, how long will it take before I am protected?

In general, vaccines take 7 to 10 days before your body produces enough antibodies to protect you from getting sick. For some vaccines, you will need to receive 2 doses prior to your trip to ensure protection.

I have taken many trips without receiving any vaccines. Why would I need vaccines now for trips?

Even when you go on all-inclusive trips, there is a risk of contracting several illnesses. For example, the ice cubes used in your drinks may have the hepatitis A virus and infect you with just one drink! Like hepatitis A, many of the illnesses that you may be exposed to are avoidable through getting vaccinated.

Can I receive vaccines if I am pregnant?

Yes absolutely! Some live vaccines such as the yellow fever vaccine are not indicated during pregnancy but most inactivated vaccines such as Hepatitis A are considered safe during pregnancy. During the consultation, Just let our nurse know that you are pregnant and we will take care of the rest!

I have a 6 months old baby. Can he/she receive travel vaccines?

Yes, our nurse team can recommend and administer the routine childhood vaccines, as well as the Hepatitis B vaccine safely in your baby. In addition, if you are travelling to a country where there is a risk of contracting traveler’s diarrhea, we can provide prescriptions and tips to help ensure your child’s health.

Are the costs of the vaccines or travel health consultation reimbursed by insurance?

In general, most private health insurance companies reimburse a portion of the costs.

How soon before my trip should I book a consultation?

Since some vaccines need to be administered in 2 doses prior to your trip and there is a delay required between the doses,  we recommend that you schedule your consultation 6-8 weeks before you travel.

After my consultation, how do i get my vaccines for my trip?

After your consultation, our medical team will make a prescription for the vaccines that you and your family members need before your travel. You can then schedule an appointment with our nurse team to get vaccinated in the comfort of your home or office.

What kind of prescriptions can I get during the travel consultation?

During your travel health consultation, you and your family members, if necessary, can get access to prescriptions for malaria prevention, antibiotics (ex: to treat travelers’ diarrhea), medication to reduce the risk of acute mountain sickness, and for the prevention and treatment of the most common travel health problems such as digestive issues, skin issues, allergies, ear/eye/sinus/throat issues, sleep-aids, and more! We also offer free medication delivery.
